1. Conventional and Sustainable Agriculture and Health

Focus restricted to New England as much as possible.

1.1. The General Problem

Sustainable (organic) farming practices produce better overall human, animal and environmental health outcomes than conventional farming practices.

What dairy farming practices produce better overall human, animal and environmental health?

1.2. The Setting

The largest agricultural product in New England is dairy (= milk production), so we will focus on this specific farming sector.

1.3. The Organizational Focus of the Seminar

Using the Life-cycle Assessment concept for evaluating health impacts of specific farming methods

1.4. Seminar Products

Design a tool to evaluate health impacts of a farming operation using a vue methodology and life cycle assessment model. This tool will help to identify health impacts and risk factors at every stage and identify research/surveillance, or data analysis that would be needed to adequately address a specific issue.
