1. Learning Unit #1 General Notes

This Learning Unit is dedicated to getting your personal computer loaded with all of the necessary software to take this course and begin learning the Blender interface.

It is extremely important that you make sure your computer is set up with all of the correct software to take this course.

  • Read the computer specifications listed in the Syllabus. Your personal computer must meet these specifications to take this course.

  • Make sure Adobe Acrobat Reader Version (latest version) is installed on your computer. You can download a free copy from http://www.adobe.com

  • Make sure Real Media Player (latest version) is installed on your computer. You can download a free version of this player at http://www.real.com

  • Make sure your computer browser supports the latest version of Flash.

  • Make sure you are using MS Explorer version 7 or FireFox version 2(+) or Safari version 3(+) as you browser.

  • Make sure you can open a ZIP file and extract the files from it.

  • Download and install the latest version of Blender from the http://www.blender.org web site.

  • View the Video tutorials Blender Default Scene, Splitting and Joining Windows, 3-D Viewport Navigation, Viewport Shading, Maneuvering About, Blender for Laptops, Loading and Saving Files, Primitive Mesh Objects, Icosphere Torus Objects, Plane Grid Circle Objects, Selecting Objects, Moving Objects, Scaling Objects and Rotating Objects. (Note: all video tutorials contain audio)

  • Complete the First Animated Model - Yellow Submarine PDF tutorial. Any files you might need for the PDF tutorial are located in the zip file associated with the tutorial. Right-click on the zip file link and download it to your computer. Open the zip file from there and extract the files.
