Critical Analysis (in class): Two editorials on Immigration Policy
We will read two short editorials on immigration policy
a. “Time for an Immigration-Enforcement Bill” by Representative J.D. Hayworth of Arizona. The Washington Times December 14, 2005
b. “A Bone for Border Hawks” by John Tierney. The New York Times, May 16, 2006 pg 25
Apply critical reading to these two pieces. Read 5 min. Write 5 min. Doesn’t have to be exhaustive – you can focus on one point or several analyzing the arguments presented, implicit assumptions, unsupported claims and the nature of the rhetorical devices used by the authors to convince you of their point.
