Description:

This is a low power micrograph of the surface of a feline ovary. The ovary is divided into a cortex and medulla. The cortex contains the follicles in various stages of development and related structures such as corpus luteum etc. in a cellular stroma. The medulla contains mainly connective tissue and blood vessels. The ovary is enclosed in a surface epithelium. In this micrograph the follicles can be seen beneath the surface. These are dwarfed by the very large corpus luteum which pushed some of the blood vessels to one side. PK4892-27. Original mag. 5x H&E Cortex. Ovary. Female Reproductive System. Cat.
