Description: Infection with Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides, unlike mycoplasmal infection in many other species, causes a severe fibrinous pleuropneumonia in cattle called contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP).  The infection has been eradicated in the US, but remains a very serious bovine pathogen in Africa, southern Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
