Ovine progressive pneumonia
Description:This slide shows histopathology from a sheep with ovine progressive pneumonia. This slowly progressive disease forms many nodules. Once a large part of the lungs are involved, a lung biopsy is likely to recover a sample with abnormal cells and provide a diagnosis. Lung biopsy is one of the most invasive diagnostic techniques, and should only be used when a diffuse or extensive multifocal disease is suspected, so that there is good likelihood of obtaining abnormal tissue in the biopsy sample. Biopsies can be obtained percutaneously or with a biopsy instrument through a flexible endoscope.
