Trantracheal Aspirate Cytology
Description:This slide shows Wright-Giemsa stain of equine transtracheal aspirate cytology. There are numerous neutrophils and excessive cellular debris. The normal cytology should be macrophages and occasional lymphocytes. The neutrophils demonstrate inflammation, and coupled with the organisms on gram stain, confirm a respiratory infection well before culture results become available.
