Transtracheal aspirate
Description:Transtracheal aspiration is a minimally invasive technique that allows aspiration of airway cells for cytology examination and fluid for culture. This slide shows a horse with a sterile preparation of the mid cervidal region for a TTA. Bronchoalveolar lavage is a sampling technique that brings up a sample from a distal airway or alveolar region. It is performed more commonly in small animals, and requires general anesthesia.
